Hunter's Weekend Picks

It's Friday, it's sunny, rainy, windy and sunny again so we've picked some all weather events for you to get involved in over the weekend. Enjoy folks. Music: Minimum Maximum at Civic Offices, Wood Quay We're holding on to summer and perhaps preparing ourselves for some more outdoor gigs next weekend (we hope you're reading EP ticket fairy!)  by attending "Minimum Maximum" an after work, out door gig taking place this evening  at the Civic Offices at Wood Quay.Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 11.31.45This is the first of three Friday gigs throughout August and September. Each gig is €5 on the door and runs from 6:30pm to 9pm.  Tonights entertainment is provided by "I Have a Tribe" (pictured above) "Stomptown Brass" and "Saint Sister".   Movie: Straight Outta ComptonScreen Shot 2015-08-28 at 11.37.36 The NWA bipoc with a Hollywood sheen has already smashed box offices stateside but it hasn't been short of it's detractors: stating that it glosses over some not so happy home truths mostly involving Dr Dre's history of violence against women. However as a movie, it captures a certain time and place perfectly and is always entertaining. Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jnr (we know, O'Shea?!) who plays his Dad on screen and that storming, stirring and groundbreaking music really steal the show.   Family:  Merrion Square Open Day Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 11.34.00 Merrion square invites the public to it's annual open day tomorrow to enjoy it's regular  heavy- hitting cultural centres including the National Gallery and National Museum but also some other hidden gems. An archaeological extravaganza suitable for all the family or maybe just wander through the park and check out the new ‘Giant’s Garden’ playground. Famous residents included Oscar Wilde,  WB Yeats who lived at No 82, and even Daniel O’Connell.  Some 'hood.
