Give back this Christmas

With the Christmas rush in full swing, stores across the country are packed out with people spending their hard-earned cash on gifts to put a smile on the faces of their nearest and dearest. It is easy to forget about those less fortunate who won't be receiving gifts or over-indulging in excessive amounts of food, things which most of us take for granted over the Christmas holidays.

There are many ways to give back this Christmas and do your bit, but if you are stuck for ideas we have some ready for you:

  • Society of St Vincent De Paul have many donation options from cash donations, to giving a toy for the RTÉ 2FM Toy Appeal. You may have seen SVP Give Trees throughout the city which are great ways to making a gift contribution. By taking a card from the tree, you are given a description of the person you have received to donate to, and you choose a gift that will be given to this person.
  • Joining in, in Christmas caroling for charity is not only a fantastic way to fundraise for a deserving charity, it is also a great way to get yourself in a festive mood!
  • Make-A-Wish grants magical wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have life-threatening medical conditions. Every cash donation goes towards helping to make these children's wishes come true.
  • Simon Community, Focus Ireland and The Knights of St Columbus all run charity food kitchens on Christmas day ,and are always looking for volunteers. If you have the spare time, your help is always appreciated.

Remember it is the season for giving, so try to do your bit for charity this year.
